Swan feed at Welney-a must see!
Last Sunday we went to the Welney wetlands centre. We were fortunate enough to see the evening feeding of over 600 swans and 100s of ducks of various species under the evening flood lights.
During the winter Bewick’s swans, Whooper swans and our own Mute swans migrate south from Europe. The whooper swans migrate from Siberia and Northern Russia, travelling over 1000 miles to spend the winter months in East Anglia. The Bewick’s swans migrate from Iceland, whilst the Mute swans assemble from both the UK and other parts of Europe.
It was a fascinating experience and would recommend it, even though it is the best part of an hour by car.
The facilities at the centre were very good. The children's section and exhibition are excellent and entertaining.
